Sketch Frenzy Friday 123011

Happy Friday all! Not really feeling like Friday here, but that's what happens when the Holidays are around!! The creativity isn't really flowing here either, but I came up with something I could live with for the Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge of the week :)

 Here is my creation

based on this sketch by Sharon Wheet.

My card base is Crumb Cake, with a Chocolate Chip accent layer behind a Real Red background. The strip across the center is Real Red DSP from the Patterns DSP Brights Stack. The flower image is from Faith in Nature (a Hostess set). I stamped the image on Naturals White in Chocolate Chip then added color to it. I sponged on Real Red (using a reverse masking technique), then added some Real Red accents with a Blender Pen. The stem was colored with Chocolate Chip and a Blender Pen, and the center with a little Daffodil Delight. I sponged the edge lightly with Crumb Cake before layering to Real Red and Chocolate Chip. A Real Red button with White Baker's Twine is the final accent. The "Thank You" saying is also from the Faith in Nature set.

Happy Friday all, and Happy New Year!! Continue on our mini tour by clicking HERE to see what Maria has created this week.

See you next year :)

Merry Christmas 2011!!

Here is the card I sent to the Family and Friends on our Christmas list this year. We pared it down a little, but I still made 90 cards!! I tried hard to keep it simple so it didn't become overly stressful. I like it and think it's been well received!!

I decided there isn't enough purple in my life so I wanted to work that in somehow. Then I saw this tree stamp that I bought last year when the new catalog came out and still hadn't used. Grab the color coach, and here we go!! The card base is Concord Crush with an accent layer of Lucky Limeade underneath Shimmery White. The Shimmery White was textured in the Big Shot using the Snowburst embossing folder and craft frame to leave the oval in the center unembossed. The saying is from a different set, but we wanted Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. The tree was stamped in Lucky Limeade and ornaments added in Concord Crush and Daffodil Delight. One Rhinestone as added at the top for just a little bling :)

Below are links to all of my previous Christmas cards. I love taking a look back at them. Usually, I'm cussing them before actually getting them in the mail, but I still like them all!

Merry Christmas all!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 122311

Happy Friday all! Hope your Christmas planning and preparations are progressing well! I feel like I'm making a dent, but will probably still have a few long days ahead!! As you know, Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and mini tour! Here is my creation

based on this sketch by Robbie Rubala.

I had fun with this one! Felt the need to create after so much time doing everything but stamping! My card base is Real Red with a Marina Mist accent layer. The snowflakes were embossed with the Snowburst folder on Shimmery White card stock. I used the Cutter Kit (item 106958, page 208) to to the curved bottom edge on the snowflake layer. I used the Snow Swirled set. The greeting is stamped on the left side of the Marina Mist, just under the curve. The large flake was stamped on Shimmery White in Real Red and punched with the 1-3/8" punch. I jazzed it up with Rhinestones and layered it onto a Real Red 2-3/8" Scallop Circle. On the scallop circle, I used my White Gel Pen to add a dot to each scallop. That element is attached with dimensionals to the snowflake background. Along the curved line I added some small snowflakes. They were also stamped in Real Red on Shimmery White but punched with the 1/2" circle punch. I attached them with Mini Glue dots and added a Rhinestone to the center of each. Finally, a Real Rel Satin ribbon is knotted around the Marina Mist.

Merry Christmas all! I hope to be back on Saturday with my Christmas card of the year, and maybe with a look back at all the Christmas cards of my past. We shall see :)

Sketch Frenzy Friday 12/16/11

Happy Friday all! Crazy week here, so crazy that I couldn't find time to create anything for the Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge-Sorry!! Maybe I'll come back to it this weekend. But, here is the sketch of the week, created by Patrice Herrera, if you'd like to play along!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 120911

Happy Friday again all. Man, don't the weeks go by fast this time of year? We've hit Winter this week! Snow last Saturday (about 3 inches) and bitter cold. A little warmer today (hit freezing this afternoon) but the chance for snow is back in the forecast :( I like to look at it, but not be out in it!!

Anyway, as you know Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and mini hop. My brain is on snow and Christmas, so that is what you get!! Here is my card

based on this sketch by Maria Vanderform.

This sketch was a bit of a challenge to me, but probably because I haven't been stamping. No creative juices flowing!! I will get back to it-eventually!!

My card base is Cherry Cobbler. The background plaid print in Marina Mist & Cherry Cobbler is from the Frostwood Lodge DSP pack. I stamped the snowman from Snow Much Fun in Stazon Black on Shimmery White and added Marina Mist & Cherry Cobbler to him with a blender pen. And just a touch of Basic Gray for shadows. He is very tall so this layer is almost as tall as the card front! Not my ideal choice of size, but what it has to be for him to fit!! The saying is stamped in Cherry Cobbler and punched with the Modern Label punch. That is layered onto a Punch Window Modern Label cut with the Big Shot from Cherry Cobbler. I added Marina Mist brads on each side and attached with dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by today!! Continue on our tour by clicking HERE to see what Kim has created this week.

I hope to be back to regular stamping soon! My house is decorated, shopping is progressing, and cards are started. Too bad there are so many other things that require my attention :) Have a GREAT weekend all!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 120211

Happy Friday all! Wow. A non productive week here! Think I'm overwhelmed with all that needs doing, and therefore not getting anything done!! Oh well, I will survive :)

As you know, Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and mini hop. Here is my creation

based on this sketch by Kim Innis:

My card base is Lucky Limeade with a Naturals Ivory background that was textured with the Snow Burst embossing folder in the Big Shot. The Tree image is from the Jolliest Time of Year stamp set. It was stamped on a Naturals Ivory in Lucky Limeade oval cut with the Big Shot Ovals die and is the middle size on that die. It was layered onto the largest oval in Lucky Limeade. A Scallop Punch of Old Olive was cut in half and attached to either side to match the sketch. I ran a Blender Pen over the tree to blend the Limeade just a bit and added Daffodil Delight for the ribbon and spots on the tree. I skipped the "sentiment" because of the textured background. The saying from the set works perfect for the inside of the card. :)

Sketch Frenzy Friday 112511

Happy Friday all! Hope you had a GREAT Thanksgiving!!

Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and mini tour! We hope you'll play along this week!! The sketch this week was created by me!! This is always a challenge for me, but I love see what the other girls do with it! Can't wait!!

Here is my card

based on this sketch:

My "oval" is very subtle, but it's there!! I need to figure out my Christmas card this weekend, so this is step one down that creative path!! Card base is Always Artichoke. I cut a 2nd piece of Always Artichoke and Textured it with the Snow Burst and wooden craft frame to leave an unembossed oval in the center of the card. In that oval I stamped the Christmas Tree from Christmas Lodge in Versamark and embossed with Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder. Next I covered the oval with a scrap of paper and spritzed the rest of the layer with Vanilla Shimmer Smootch Spritz. Always an adventure but love the result!! Across the bottom is a strip of Very Vanilla Velvet ribbon. The saying is from Four the Holidays.

Sweet Floral Tiled Birthday

Hopefully you aren't tired of these tiled cards yet, but when I find something I like, I like to try it with several different sets! Especially in this case because we have several backgrounds that work perfect with this technique!! For this one, I grabbed the Sweet Floral background and made a birthday card for a Sweet Friend!! I hope it gave her something to smile about!!

Colors are Wisteria Wonder and Lucky Limeade. The flowers were inked using sponge daubers and stamped on Naturals White that had been scored. The tile layer is attached to a Lucky Limeade accent layer. I attached a Wisteria Wonder ribbon on each side and did the "cheater bow". That works the best with this ruffled ribbon. The "bow" is just a small piece knotted around the base piece. The saying is from On Your Birthday and is attached with dimensionals over the ribbon. Quick and easy and LOVE this technique!! Image all the possible color combinations with all these different flower backgrounds :)

Sketch Frenzy Friday 111911

Happy Friday all! As you know that means another Sketch Frenzy Friday sketch challenge and mini hop. My brain worked hard on this one and ended up in Sunflower mode. No surprise there!! What can I say? Sunflowers make me happy :) Here is my card:

based on this sketch by Deb Currier.

I do start the process of making these cards in my head. And often times I struggle to get past the literal elements of the sketch. In this one, the star "element" and the script background were hard for me to work past. But I kept pushing!! I even altered the sketch just a tad by moving my sentiment. But the point of these is inspiration and I SURE got that!! Thanks Deb :)

The card base is Chocolate Chip with an accent of Daffodil Delight behind the Naturals White background. On the background I stamped the Sunflower in Daffodil Delight. (Hindsight, I wonder if Chocolate Chip might have been better??) Across that I attached a Daffodil Delight 1-1/4" Grosgrain ribbon, then a 1/2" Scallop Dots Chocolate Chip ribbon upside down (no dots). For the flower element, I cut two of the medium Daisies from Daffodil Delight and two from Chocolate Chip and layered them together with an Antique Brad in the center. Actually, I attached the brad through the ribbon and Daffodil/White card stock to securely hold the element on the card. I added my sentiment under the ribbon.

Fall Thanks

I made a thank you card last night for my office for a client who brought us some yummy treats, and it just happens to fit the SU Only Challenge this week: Thankful. Here is the card:

Colors are Cajun Craze, More Mustard, Garden Green and Crumb Cake. The card base is Cajun Craze with an accent of More Mustard behind the Crumb Cake background. On the background I stamped the French Foliage leaves in Cajun Craze, More Mustard and Garden Green and the splatter dots over all with Crumb Cake. I sponged the edge as well with Crumb Cake before texturing in the Square Lattice embossing folder. LOVE that effect!! The saying is from Thank You Kindly and was stamped in Cajun Craze on Crumb Cake, punched with the Large Oval punch and layered on a Garden Green Scallop Oval punch. The oval element is attached over the Crumb Cake ribbon that I knotted around. Quick and easy and got rave reviews from my co-workers. Maybe they're easily impressed?? :)

Upsy Daisy CCMC 175

After some doing nothing time tonight, I decided a little creativity was in order so I played along with the Create with Connie and Mary challenge of the week, a color challenge to use More Mustard, Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black. Here is what I came up with.

The card base is Cherry Cobbler with a Basic Black accent layer behind a background of the First Edition DSP. On a Naturals Ivory Top Note, I stamped the Upsy Daisy flowers that I had inked with all 3 colors. I inked the entire image with More Mustard, then added Basic Black to the stems, and Cherry Cobbler to the flower tips. I stamped it full strength, then moved the stamp up and right and stamped again to create a shadow effect. The edge of the Top Note was sponged with More Mustard, Cherry Cobbler brads were added at each point, and a piece of Basic Black Taffeta ribbon was added across the bottom before attaching the Top Note to the base. The saying was stamped in Basic Black, punched with the Large Oval, sponged with More Mustard, layered onto a Cherry Cobbler Scalloped Oval, and attached to the top right corner of the Top Note with dimensionals.

Tiled Coneflowers

Morning all! Hope you have a great weekend on tap! Ours started great last night with a come from behind win for the Crete High School football team! They are headed to the State Finals!! Great job boys! Neither of my boys play, but they are both in the Cardinal Band which does a great job of supporting the team and fans!

Anyway, on to the stamping! Here is a card I created several of the week, some get well, some Sympathy. I used the Simply Scored again to do the "tile" look.

The colors are Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeade and Chocolate Chip. I started this time with a Naturals White piece of card stock, 4" x 5". Score it every inch in both directions. I inked the flowers by using a Sponge Dauber with each color and dabbing it onto the desired area and stamped over the recessed side of the scored  lines. Love this look!! I knotted a Calypso Coral ribbon around the bottom of the card stock and added the saying over that with dimensionals. The flower panel was layered onto Chocolate Chip, then attached to the Calypso Coral base.

Thanks for stopping by today! Hope you can work some stamping into your weekend. I really hope to here!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 111111

Happy Friday all! Hope it's been a GREAT week! Not too bad here. State playoff football tonight, Semi-Finals, for our High School Team. Go Crete Cardinals!!

As you  know, Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday sketch and mini hop. Here is the card I created

based on this sketch by Angela Walters.

My card base is Early Espresso with a background plaid from the Frostwood Lodge DSP pack. I used the Scallop Squares Duo die and cut a Cherry Cobbler scalloped square. On that is a Shimmery White square. Shimmery only because that folder was close by and the Whisper White was AWOL. LOL!! On the Shimmery White I stamped the saying in Cherry Cobbler. The saying is from the Christmas Lodge set. I inked with marker to get only the Happy Holidays. The lodge image was stamped in Early Espresso Craft Ink and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder. After the layer was attached, I applied Dazzling Details to all the snow areas. At the bottom of the card is a Scalloped Cherry Cobbler layer (under my watermark) and an Early Espresso Quilted Ribbon. I did a "Mary Brown" bow using a red rhinestone. The bows just a little crooked, but that's OK.

Sparkly Stockling!

Card three from the weekend! This was a last minute idea, but I really LOVE how it turned out! It was very well received too by the Girls. How can you not love all the sparkle??

The card base is Real Red, the background Shimmer White. We started by adding a strip of Sticky Strip a quarter inch from thee top and bottom of the background. Grid paper makes this SUPER easy!! Trim the Sticky Strip at the edge of the Shimmer White. Burnish over the Sticky Strip with a bone folder. This has two purposes. One, it makes sure the tape is securely stuck across the entire piece of card stock. Two, it "releases" the red cover and makes it much easier to remove. Add Silver Glass Glitter to both strips. The stocking was stamped in Real Red on another piece of Shimmery White Card Stock and punched with the coordinating Stocking Builder Punch. Punch the toe, heal and top strip on the stocking from Silver Glimmer Paper. This is AWESOME stuff! Adhere those to the stocking with Mini Glue Dots. In the center we added one of the largest Rhinestones. At the very top corner, the "hanger" is a small piece of White Baker's Twine adhered to a Mini Glue Dot. Stamp the Happy Holidays (from Four the Holidays) above the bottom Glitter strip in Real Red. Attached the stocking as desired in the center with dimensionals.

Christmas Lodge Tree

Card two from Club last weekend. I really thought this one might be too simple, but it was very well received! And really, quick and easy Christmas cards are the best kind!!

The card base is Garden Green. At the bottom of that, we embossed the "Merry Christmas" with White Embossing Powder. The print paper is DSP from the Frostwood Lodge set. On that we embossed the Christmas Tree also with White Embossing Powder, but then we sponged over Garden Green ink using a sponge dauber. To do this, dab your dauber all over the tree, making sure to get the edges. Then, rub the ink in very well all over the tree. Finally, wipe off any excess ink from the embossing with a tissue. Really makes the tree pop!! We tore off the bottom of the DSP, just under the tree. At the top left and bottom right we added 3 of the Mini Silver Brads using the Mat Pack & Paper Piercing Tool.

Tiled Sunflower

Happy Monday all! I know, those two words don't go together!! I'm spoiled and don't work Mondays, so they usually aren't too bad for me!! If you consider cleaning, errands and laundry not bad!!

I had Club yesterday-great day with My Girls as usual!! This first card was inspired by Glenda Travelstead, a fellow demo and part of the SUDSOL group. She shared a class she did using the Simply Scored. Her card used the Sunflower and the tile technique. Of course I had to do that!!! Here is my version that the Girls did:

The first step on this card is to cut your Whisper White card stock 4" x 5". Not a usual layer size for me, but it works best for scoring. Score it both directions on every inch mark. Next step, ink the Sunflower and stamp over the recessed lines, not the raised lines. Oh, use the smaller end of the stylus for deeper lines also. We inked the Sunflower first with Daffodil Delight, then added some More Mustard with a Sponge Dauber right were the petals meet the center. In the center we added Chocolate Chip on the outside, and Early Espresso in the very center. Huff on your stamp to refresh the ink, then stamp.

The tiled image is layered onto a slightly larger Daffodil Delight layer. At the bottom we tied around a Chocolate Chip Scallop Dots Ribbon. This one is done with the dots down, it looked great either way. The saying is from a new to me word set, Friendly Phrases. It is stamped in Early Espresso on Whisper White, punched with the Large Oval Punch, then layered onto a Daffodil Delight Scallop Oval Punch. The element is attached over the ribbon with dimensionals. Actually, one dimensional split in half-one half on top, on on the bottom. The entire layer is attached to the Early Espresso card base.

Thanks for stopping by today!! I'll have two more cards from Club to share this week, and hope to get some more stamping in!! Have a GREAT week all!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 110411

Happy Friday all!! Can't believe another week has zipped by!! No stamping again-need to work on that!!

As you know, Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and mini tour! Love a good challenge!! Here is my card

based on this sketch by Tina Taves.

My card base is Early Espresso with a Pretty in Pink accent layer behind a Very Vanilla stamped background. The stamps are from the Vintage Vogue set and I stamped the large flower in Pretty in Pin, the small flower in Early Espresso, and the vine image in Crumb Cake. The edge was sponged with Crumb Cake before attaching the striped Pretty in Pink 1-1/4" Grosgrain ribbon across the center.  The Scallop circle element was cut from Early Espresso card stock with the Perfect Pennants die. In the center is a 1-3/4" punched circle of Pretty In Pink, then the Friends image from Vintage Vogue. The Friends is attached to the circle with dimensionals, and the entire element is attached over the ribbon with dimensionals.

Sketch Frenzy Friday 102811

Happy Friday all! I'm ready! Friday is going to be a crazy day, but hopefully the weekend won't be too bad!!??!!

Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and Mini Tour! Can't wait to see that the team came up with!! I immediately thought Halloween when I saw the sketch by Tammy F. That created a bit of a problem as I don't have many Halloween stamps! Here is what I came up with

Not overly creative, but it will do!! I haven't been stamping and I'm feeling it!!! Need to make that much more of a priority!!

My card base is Basic Black with a background of Tangerine Tango dotted DSP. Across the center of that is a strip of Whisper White with narrow Black Taffeta strung across. In the center is the "Trick or Treat" saying from Grateful Greetings. It was inked with markers, stamped on Whisper White, punched with the 1-1/4" Square Punch and layered on a Basic Black 1-3/8" Square. The two pumpkins were stamped on Whisper White in Tangerine Tango, with Chocolate Chip stems, Crumb Cake squiggles and Basic Black faces, then cut out. The saying and pumpkins were attached over the ribbon with dimensionals.

Open House Sounding Joy

The last card from Open Houses last weekend!! This set has very quickly landed at the top of my favorites for Christmas Cards. Probably because you can get very stunning results with very little work!! :)

The card base is Soft Suede. The background is Very Vanilla that we scored horizontally every 1/4" using the fabulous NEW Simply Scored Tool. Across the center is a punched Soft Suede Lace Ribbon Border. Over that is layered a very pretty new ribbon, the Very Vanilla 3/8" Velvet Stitched Ribbon. The accent, an Antique Brad punched through the ribbon. The star from the set was stamped in Soft Suede on Very Vanilla. The "Joy" was added with the new Pewter Embossing Powder. That elements is attached with dimensionals over the ribbon and punch border. Quick, easy and beautiful!!! And, many other colors would work perfectly with this as well!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 102111

Happy Friday all! As you know that means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and mini hop! Here is my card

based on this sketch by Tammy Baldwin

My card feels a little more like Spring than Fall, but that's OK! I figured the colors would be great for a 'thinking of you' card! There isn't much stamping either, but with the GREAT DSP that we have that's OK too!! :)

The card base is Wild Wasabi. The 3 DSP prints are from the Just Add Cake pack. Colors featured are Wild Wasabi, So Saffron, Blushing Bride & Baja Breeze. My 3 elements are flowers created with the Boho Blossoms punch and Whisper White buttons from the Neutrals Designer Buttons set. In the center of the buttons is White Baker's Twine. The saying is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and was stamped on Whisper White in Wild Wasabi, punched with the Word Window punch and layered onto a Baja Breeze Modern Label punch.

Open House Christmas Lodge

Oops-got off track posting! But, here is the 3rd card from Open Houses last weekend! Love this one-even my husband noticed it!!

The card base is Cherry Cobbler, the background is Shimmery White that I textured with the Snow Burst folder in the Big Shot. Around the center is the FABULOUS Cherry Cobbler Quilted Satin Ribbon. We stamped the lodge and 'Merry Christmas' with Cherry Cobbler Craft Ink and added Clear Embossing powder. The point of that, so we could add Dazzling Details and not have the ink turn pink!! Dazzling Details is iridescent glitter glue and adds awesome sparkle!! We put it where the snow would be-on the roof lines and under the porch. Attach your layers to the background with Mini Glue dots and you're done!!

Open House Gently Falling

Card two from the weekend. Using a technique I tried recently and really like-especially for Fall leaves!

Aren't the leaves on here awesome??!!?? The technique is the Baby Wipe Technique. Splitcoast has a great tutorial HERE, but it's really simple. Take a baby wipe and fold it in half and put it in a container. I like to fold the edges into the center, and then fold that into the center again so there are no edges on the top that we are going to use. Now you add drops of reinker to make your ink pad. Start with the darkest color and add 4 or 5, then the middle color, then the lightest color. The size of your ink just needs to slightly exceed the largest stamp you are going to use. Don't leave any white areas either or you'll have gaps on your stamp. Once you have the ink as desired, stamp as you would with an ink pad! Press your stamp down well in one spot and don't ink it more than once or you'll risk muddying the colors. I also recommend after stamping, you stamp again on scratch paper to avoid muddying the colors as well.

One other hint before finishing the details of the card. I found that new baby wipes right out of the package do not work near as well as some a little older. You want them damp, but not wet. If they feel too dry, spritz them with a light water spray. I had old ones hanging around here and I started playing with those. I figured new would be even better. NOT!! You could probably use the new ones if you let them sit out a while before using them!!

OK, back to the card. The colors we used to make the "ink pad" are Chocolate Chip, Cherry Cobbler and Daffodil Delight. We stamped the leaves-the "insides" from Gently Falling-randomly on the Very Vanilla background. You could add the outline of the leaves as well. I didn't as I knew it would take some time and add too much stress!! :) After the leaves were all done, we sponged the edge with Daffodil Delight. The background is layered onto Cherry Cobbler, then attached to the card base of Chocolate Chip. The saying is from Hand-Penned Holidays and was stamped on a strip of Very Vanilla with Chocolate Chip. We punched a wider strip of Cherry Cobbler with the Scallop Trim Border and layered the saying on to that. It is attached over the background.

Scroll back through my cards for the last week and see some others I've done with this technique!! I've had fun trying it out!!
