Sketch Frenzy Friday 072911

Happy Friday all! You know that means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and mini tour!! Here is my creation

based on this sketch by Tammy Fite.

I carried the scallop square a little further than the sketch! I love the variation of making these little square cards on occasion. I cut a Melon Mambo Scallop Square with the Big Shot for the base layer. The actual "card" part is behind that. The square is right around 4-1/4", so I cut a 4x8 and fold it for the card. On the Melon Mambo I stamped the new Distressed Dots background. Word of warning: either my pad was very inky, or it's very easy to get too much ink on this one! I had to do it a second time to not have marks where I didn't want marks!! The next scallop square is Daffodil Delight and is the larger of the two on the Scallop Squares Duo die. I layered a Tempting Turquoise square in the center of that and stamped "Live in the Sunshine" at the bottom in Tempting Turquoise. I wrapped around a Melon Mambo Scallop Dots Ribbon. Hmmm, a theme! Scallops and dots!! :) Above that I attached a flower made with the Raining Flowers set. Melon Mambo for the back layer, Daffodil Delight with Tempting Turquoise for the middle layer, and a Tempting Turquoise button with White Bakers Twine.

ColorLab51

Thursday!! Time for another challenge over at the ColorLab! Stop over and play along-more fun with new colors this week!!

Calypso Coral, Baja Breeze & Daffodil Delight

I played with another new set for this one-Creative Elements. Lots of options!! My card base is Calypso Coral with layers of both Baja Breeze & Daffodil Delight behind a First Edition DSP background. On that background I stamped the outline floral image in Baja Breeze (click to enlarge if you can't see it). The edge of the DSP was also sponged lightly. Then I stamped 3 flowers in Daffodil Delight and 2 butterflies in Calypso Coral directly on the DSP. Then, I stamped another flower and butterfly on Very Vanilla card stock and cut out. In the center of the flower I put a Calypso Coral brad and attached over the center flower on the DSP with dimensionals. I curled the butterfly slightly and attached him over one of the background butterflies. Across the bottom I scrunched some Baja Breeze Seam Binding and attached the saying with dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by today!! Do stop over at the ColorLab to see the other Chemists' creations, and also to play along!!

Open Giraffe

Finally the last card from Open House last weekend! Sorry it's taken me so long to get them all up! I was exhausted after last weekend, and with the heat it's been hard to keep up around here! This one was fairly quick, especially after the balloon card!!

The giraffe is from a fun new set called Zoo Review. Just as it sounds, Zoo Animals! I always like to try and do one masculine card and this fit the bill! Card base is Soft Suede with a So Saffron background. On the Saffron, we first stamped the new Netting background with So Saffron. then we textured it in the Big Shot with the new Houndstooth embossing folder. Sponge the edge with Soft Suede before attaching. The Soft Suede tag is cut with the Big Shot and the Two Tags die. At the bottom is a saying from Teeny Tiny Wishes. The giraffe was stamped with Soft Suede on Naturals White. We colored him gently with the So Saffron marker, then came back and did the spots with Soft Suede ink and a blender pen. The marker was too dark! Sponge the edge of the giraffe, attached to So Saffron and layer on the tag. At the top, we knotted an Early Espresso Baker's Twine through the hole for accent.

Thanks for stopping by! I'll be back Thursday with a new ColorLab creation!!

Open House Up Up & Away

Here is the 3rd card from Open House last weekend. One that proved to be a bit of a challenge between using the Stamp-a-ma-jig and cutting out balloons!!

This color combo was inspired by the ColorLab challenge last week. It was Island Indigo, Baja Breeze & Rich Razzleberry. This is Pool Party instead of Baja Breeze. The card base is Island Indigo with a Rich Razzleberry layer behind the Pool Party DSP & Striped background. The stripes were made by running Pool Party card stock through the Big Shot in the new Stripes embossing folder. After that was done we LIGHTLY brayered Versamark over it and heat embossed clear powder on the stripes. This was also a tricky step. Ink the brayer well, but run it lightly over the stripes, the same was as the strips. Not across seemed to work the best.

Next, clouds behind the balloons. I punched out a 1-3/4" Scallop Circle to use as a mask. Start at the top and sponge Pool Party ink over the top of the scallop. Work your way down the White card stock as desired. No two will look the same!

The balloons were stamped using the stamp-a-ma-jig. We first stamped 3 solid images in Pool Party. Then we added the desired second "layer" to two balloons. Some stripes, some dotted, etc but all in Island Indigo.  The third balloon as the Razzleberry lines and saying in Island Indigo. The baskets are a separate stamp that we again used the SAMJ to line up perfectly.

Note: I bought this set in wood because I knew I'd want to use the SAMJ with it most of the time. I took several pieces of vellum and stamped all the images on a corner using the SAMJ. Now, I can just grab the desired image and go!!

The balloons are attached with dimensionals.  Finally, the ribbon and brad. This grosgrain ribbon was the perfect touch, but its fairly stiff. Usually I use my paper piercer to poke a hole for the brad. Didn't work in this case with the folded top ribbon and the size of the brad. So, I grabbed my Crop-a-Dile! We first attached a strip of Razzleberry grosgrain across the bottom of the cloud panel. Fold, until the ends overlap, a smaller piece to be the "bow". Hold the bow on the ribbon and punch a hole using the smaller punch on the Crop-a-Dile. Insert brad. Layer all together and all done!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 072211

Happy Friday all! Hope you have a great one with a nice weekend on tap!! As you know, Friday means another sketch challenge and mini hop from Sketch Frenzy Friday!! Here is my creation

based on this sketch by Tammy Baldwin.

My card base is Chocolate Chip. On that I stamped a few floral images from the Hostess Set in the Summer Mini, Love & Care, in Chocolate Chip. Love these kind of flowers!!! The main flower image was colored with markers to look like a Coneflower, Regal Rose petals and Chocolate Chip center. Mine are still blooming, despite the hot and dry weather!! I sponged the edge lightly before layering it over an offset Regal Rose square. At the bottom, I attached a Regal Rose strip with Chocolate Chip Scallop Dots Ribbon attached around. The bow is a separate piece of ribbon knotted around. The saying was added after stamping the flower. I couldn't find any other place that it looked right. Then, for a little extra bling, I spritzed the top of the card (from the Regal Rose strip up) with the Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz. Who doesn't love a little sparkle?? :)

ColorLab50

Thursday!! I think I'm almost recovered from last weekend. Almost, but not quite!! Anyway, Thursday means another fun challenge over at the ColorLab! This one was a bit of a challenge!!

Lucky Limeade, Riding Hood Red,
& Perfect Plum

Here is what I came up with! A challenge mostly because I'm dragging this week! I'm sure the heat isn't helping either!!

Card base is Riding Hood Red with a Lucky Limeade layer behind a Naturals Ivory background. On the background, I stamped the 3 stems/leaves image from Bold Blossom. To the top I added a punch flower made with the Triple Layer Blossom Bouquet punch. The back layer is Riding Hood Red. In the middle is a Perfect Plum DSP and on top, the Perfect Plum card stock outline flower. In the center of each is a new Mini Silver Brad. The flowers were attached with dimensionals. I sponged the edge of the Naturals Ivory with Perfect Plum and spritzed on a little Perfect Plum ink before attaching the flowers. Trying to get in a little more purple!! The Lucky Limeade Scallop Ribbon is attached across the bottom with the saying element layered over it with dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by today! Head over the ColorLab, check out the other Chemists' creations, and play along with us!!

Open House Flower Fest

Card two from the weekend! One of the ones that involved cutting! and glue drying time! Hopefully I didn't stress anyone out too much! I think on this one, the cutting and glue are very worth the end result!!

Love this new color-Wisteria Wonder!! The card base is Elegant Eggplant with a background layer of Wisteria Wonder behind the striped (or dotted-both look great!) Wisteria Wonder DSP. We layered together the DSP & Wisteria card stock and attached the fun new In Color ribbon at each side. I generally take my ribbon all the way around and knot it, but that doesn't work well with this ruffled ribbon. It makes the layer on top bumpy! So we did the "cheater" bow instead. Attached a strip to the back, and knot a smaller piece around it. On the DSP we stamped one of the sayings from Pursuit of Happiness. Love that new word set!! For the flower, we stamped four of the scallop flowers in Elegant Eggplant on Whisper White. We punched the first one with the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle punch. The other 3, we cut out a different "layer" of the flower. On each layer, we traced inside the Eggplant with the Wisteria Wonder marker. Then we applied Mono Multipurpose Liquid Glue and sprinkled over Dazzling Diamonds glitter. Actually, we did the flower first so the glue could dry somewhat while we did the rest of the card. The layers of the flower are attached together with dimensionals, and the flower attached to the DSP with dimensionals at the top and bottom over the ruffled ribbon.

Open House Sunflower

Most of you who follow me won't be surprised to know the first stamp I KNEW I was getting from this new catalog was the Sunflower. LOVE IT!! I hope to play more with it soon, but the first thing I thought of to do with it was Poppin' Pastels. Love the result!!

Card base is Chocolate Chip. Background accent layer is Daffodil Delight. We stamped the Sunflower in versamark on the First Edition DSP. Love that paper-so glad it made the new book! On the Sunflower, we applied Pastels. Chocolate Chip for the entire "center" of the flower. We added some Early Espresso to the very center for accent. The petals are Daffodil Delight with More Mustard around the very edge for accent. I find what works best with this technique is to twist a sponge dauber lightly on the pastels to pick up the color. Then dab it over the image and then twist to set the color on the Versamark. We attached the DSP to the Daffodil Delight and then knotted a Chocolate Chip 1/2" Scallop Dots Ribbon around before attaching to the Chocolate Chip card base. The saying is from a new set, Pursuit of Happiness. Love that saying with the Sunflower!! We stamped it in Chocolate Chip on Very Vanilla, punched with the Large Oval, layered on the Scallop Oval and attached with dimensional over the ribbon.

Sketch Frenzy Friday 071511

Friday! another week gone! Not looking forward to the hot weather on the agenda, but I am looking forward to the weekend and my New Catalog Open Houses! A house full of Stampers-it doesn't get any better than that!!

Anyway, as you know, Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and mini hop. Here is the card I created

based on this sketch by Sharon Field. Sadly, this is Sharon's last week with us. Make sure you stop over and tell her thanks for all the great creations she's shared with us!!

I loved the Well Word DSP in the catalog, and it didn't disappoint in person!! The card base here is Early Espresso. A Cajun Craze layer accents the background of the DSP square background. On the left, I used two of the Ribbon Scallop border punches for my bottom layer, then Crumb Cake 3/8" Taffeta & 1/8" Early Espresso Taffeta. Crumb Cake is not one of the colors listed with this DSP, but I think it coordinates just fine. At least with this print. The main element is the pheasant from Autumn Days. I knew he'd be a perfect fit for the 2-3/8" Scallop Punch. I punched that out of Not Quite Navy and layered on a Naturals Ivory 1-3/4" Circle that I had stamped with Crumb Cake and one of the stems from Autumn Days. The pheasant was stamped on another piece of Naturals Ivory and cut out. The pheasant was inked with Cajun Craze, then thumped with Not Quite Navy, Soft Suede & Early Espresso. Lightly with all. Dimensionals were used to attach the pheasant to the circle, and the scallop circle to the card. The saying is from Teeny Tiny Wishes. I stamped it in Cajun Craze on Naturals Ivory, punched with the Word Window punch, and layered onto an Early Espresso Modern Label punch. At each end of the Modern Label, I added a Crumb Cake brad. The elements is attached to the card wit dimensionals.

ColorLab49

Thursday! Time for another ColorLab Color Challenge featuring another new In Color-Island Indigo!! I had fun with this one!! Much easier than last week :)

Here are the colors

Island Indigo, Baja Breeze &
Rich Razzleberry

 And, the card I created!

The card base is Island Indigo with a Rich Razzleberry layer under the Baja Breeze DSP background. I used two different strips of the DSP, one at the top, one at the bottom. The flower is from the new Button Buddies set. On the Whisper White strip across the center,  I stamped a Baja Breeze flower in the center, then added an Island Indigo one on each side. The Whisper White is layered onto an Island Indigo strip and attached over the seam in the DSP. In the center of each flower is a Rich Razzleberry button with White Baker's Twine knotted in the center. "Thank You" from Thank You Kindly was stamped bottom center in Island Indigo. Fun, but fairly simple!!

Thanks for stopping by today!! Make sure to stop over by the ColorLab and see what the other girls came up with! And, play along-we LOVE to see your creations!!

Stop back by tomorrow-I have a great masculine card to share. And be watching next week as I share the cards from my New Catalog Open House!! Prep is going good and I'm looking forward to seeing my Stampers this weekend!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 070811

Happy Friday all!! Friday brings us another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and mini tour!! I've had a good stamping day and I'm excited to share this week's creation! Mr. Brown brought me a whole box of goodies from the new catalog and I dove right in!! New color, new stamps, new ribbon, new accessory! Here is my card:

based on this great sketch brought to us by Tammy Fite. Thanks Tammy-this was my kind of sketch!!

My card base is the new In Color, Calypso Coral. The background is the DSP Patterns word print in the same color. The vase stamp is from the new Button Buddies set. Love that set!! Since we don't have In Color flower buttons, and the brads were too big (covered the flower), I used clear Bitty Buttons with a coordinating punch of Calypso behind it. In the center of the flowers, new Silver Mini Brads. With nice, long backs that are perfect for putting through buttons!! I inked the image with markers: Basic Gray for the vase, Lucky Limeade for the stems, and Calypso Coral for the flowers even though they are covered. The new 3/8" Ruffled Ribbon in Calypso Coral is knotted around the bottom with the saying just underneath on the left side. It is from the new set, Delightful Dozen and was stamped in Basic Gray.

ColorLab48

Thursday! You know what that means: time for another ColorLab Color Challenge. And, this week features one of the new colors-Wisteria Wonder! Destined to be a favorite of mine!! LOVE any shade of purple!!

Here are the colors:

Wisteria Wonder, Cherry Cobbler
& Pink Pirouette

And, here is the card I created, after a struggle! I like these colors together, but I could not get my brain to put them together!! Not enough stamping time lately I guess!!!

Card base is Cherry Cobbler. A Wisteria Wonder card stock layer backs a Wisteria Wonder DSP print background. The DSP is the Flirtatious Specialty pack which coordinates with the stamp I chose, Delicate Doilies. It's a new set we were able to preorder. I hadn't used it yet because it never seemed to fit what I was doing. Since nothing else was clicking for these colors, I decided to MAKE it work!! Across the center is a Pink Pirouette Lace Ribbon Border. Another preorder item getting its first use! In the center is a 2-1/2" circle of Cherry Cobbler. Layered onto that is a doily stamped in Wisteria Wonder on Whisper White. I punched it with the 2-1/2" Circle punch, but then trimmed it down so it would layer onto the 2-1/2" circle of Cherry Cobbler. In the center I added a 1" circle of Pink Pirouette and a 3/4" circle of Whisper White on which I stamped "Enjoy" from You're a Gem in Cherry Cobbler. The whole circle element is attached to the card base with dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by today! Stop over at the ColorLab and see what the rest of the team created and play along with us! We LOVE to see your creations!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 070111

Friday! Man the weeks go fast, don't they??? And it's July too! Yikes, the year is half over!!

Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday sketch challenge and mini blog hop! In addition to SFF, I will also be posting this card over at SU Only Creations for their anniversary theme. We just marked 20 years with a June Anniversary so it seems appropriate!! Here is my card

based on this sketch by Robbie Rubala

I went Purple! My intent wasn't to be quite so purple, but I like it! Not near enough purple in my world!! My original goal was to use some of the new In Colors. I got a little Wisteria Wonder in there :)

My card base is Elegant Eggplant with a background layer also Elegant Eggplant. The double layer is to allow the ribbon to be tied without showing inside the card! On the background layer I stamped the scallop flower from Flower Fest in Versamark. The White satin ribbon is knotted on the left side. There are two accent layers behind the focal image. The first is Wisteria Wonder stamped with the rose flower from Flower Fest in Whisper White. The second is Whisper White stamped with the 5 petal flower in Elegant Eggplant. Happy Anniversary is in Whisper White in the bottom right corner. Next, the focal image flower. I stamped the scallop flower 4 times in Versamark on Wisteria Wonder and embossed with White Embossing Powder. I cut out each layer of the flower and then added Elegant Eggplant ink at the center. Need to play a little more with this! Love the flower, just not sure it goes with the card. Anyway, the "layers" of the flower are attached together with dimensionals.
