ColorLab35

Thursday! Time for another challenge over at the ColorLab!! We hope you'll stop over and play along this week! Look at this fun combo!!

Elegant Eggplant, Old Olive & Chocolate Chip

Thanks to fellow ColorLab Chemist Jen Timko and all her creative efforts with this set, Every Moment, I had to order it! Click over to her blog and see some! I just went to get her link, and her most recent sample uses this set!!

My card base is Chocolate Chip with a background layer of Elegant Eggplant textured with the Vintage Wallpaper folder in the Big Shot. I stamped the bird image in black Stazon on Watercolor paper. I wish I had remembered to try my Watercolor Crayons, but I'm out of the habit of using them and automatically grabbed my blender pen and classic ink. Need to work on my coloring more!! Anyway, the stems are Old Olive, Cattails Chocolate Chip, and bird Elegant Eggplant. I added corners of Chocolate Chip with my Photo corners punch and attached the image with dimensionals over Old Olive Taffeta ribbon. The saying was also stamped on Watercolor paper and punched with the Wide Oval punch. I added two butterflies that were stamped off once and lightly colored them with Elegant Eggplant. I like a little touch of something with the words! The oval is layered on an Old Olive Decorative label with dimensionals to finish off the card.

Thanks for stopping by today! Do stop over at the ColorLab and play along! We love to see what you come up with!!

Open House Punch Bunch

Last card from the Open Houses! This one was lots of fun-love the PomPom trim!! There are two versions because of DSP differences-there are only so many sheets of each per package :) Love this DSP-you'll be seeing more of it here!!

Card base on each is Poppy Parade. A Peach Parfait is next, then the DSP. A Daffodil Delight print on top, and Poppy Parade one on the bottom. Across the center to cover where the DSP overlaps we added a strip of Peach Parfait that was punched with the Scallop Trim Border Punch. Across that, we added the PomPom Trim. It was a little different to work with. too thick to "tuck under" and secure between layers and thicker than usual for adding things over! We used Sticky Strip to attach the trim and snipped it at the edge of the card stock. The focal accent involves a few punches!! Starting in the center. We stamped the Poppy image from the set in Poppy Parade and punched the flowers with the 1-1/4" Punch. We layered that on a 1-3/8" Poppy Parade. Next we stamped the same image in Daffodil Delight and punched with the 1-3/4" Scallop Punch. **I had two stamps available so my stampers didn't have to clean to change colors** Finally, the 2-3/8" Scallop was punched of Poppy Parade. We layered all together and used the Paper Piercer on the large Poppy Scallop. To attach the layered accent, we added dimensionals two deep to the back, top and bottom, to go over the PomPom trim. Two deep meaning stacking two together to make a "thick" dimensional. Hopefully that's a little clearer than mud!?!!

Friend Flowers

Inspiration from a couple challenges combined for this card! I'm so glad to be back to playing! Life has slowed a little!! Hand Stamped Sentiments has a "Blooming Blossoms" challenge this week, and Pals Paper Arts, Embossing.

The colors were chosen based on the Tulips and Daffodils I will have blooming outside sometime in the near future!! Card base is Poppy Parade. I punched flowers with the Boho Blossoms Punch in Poppy Parade and Daffodil Delight in both card stock and DSP from the Sunny Garden pack. I attached the punched flowers on a Whisper White Top Note and then ran it through the Big Shot in the Square Lattice embossing folder. Love it! The saying is from All Holidays. I stamped it in Poppy on Whisper White and layered on Daffodil Delight. The Poppy Parade ribbon is attached on each side of the Top Note, and the saying layered over with dimensionals. Pretty quick and easy!! and bright and cheery for Spring! It has to come some day, right??

Open House Bold Blossom

Card 3-featuring my favorite set from the Occasions Mini-Bold Blossom. And, the good news? It's in the next mini too-WOOHOO!! Wait until you see the cool new tool that coordinates with it :)

This is a favorite color combo too but those of you who come by regularly probably know that!! Concord Crush, Pear Pizzazz and Peach Parfait. The card base is Concord Crush and was textured in the Framed Tulips folder. We used that folder twice on Open House projects-it's just too cool not to!! Inset in the frame is a Pear Pizzazz layer under the stamped Whisper White layer. On that layer, we started at the top and stamped our way down. Butterflies in Peach Parfait, Flowers in Concord Crush, and stems in Pear Pizzazz. Running stems off the bottom is much better than butterflies off the top! Next, we embossed the entire stamped image by covering it with Versamark and adding Iridescent Ice Embossing powder. Heat, and Wow-sparkly!!

Let me back up there just a little bit. Lesson learned over the weekend is that Sticky Strip pulls off heat embossing. When I made my cards, I embossed it all, then added sticky strip and scrunched the ribbon on the sides. But, if you have trouble and need to back up your ribbon, pulling up on it-which usually works just fine, can pull off the sticky strip. So, I started having them add the Sticky Strip right after stamping. Then add Versamark all above it and add the embossing powder. Heat didn't seem to bother the Sticky Strip at all.

After you've embossed the entire thing, pull off the red top of the Sticky Strip and add your ribbon. I cut the ribbon twice as wide as the layer and most of my stampers had more than enough. We gathered it with a Stylus for a guide as I've mentioned here several times. But this time, we only did a few gathers on each side as the center is under the words. The next thing we did was add the saying element. Stamp the saying on a piece of Whisper White and punch with the Designer Label Punch. Add a Peach Parfait 1-3/8" Circle behind and attach with dimensionals over the ribbon. I find a small piece of dimensional near the top and bottom works just great! Lastly, add a medium Rhinestone to the center of each flower using the Paper-Piercing Tool. Never too much bling!!

Strength & Hope

I should be working on my taxes, but just wasn't feeling it! So, I took a creative break. Well, I've not actually gotten started this weekend so I guess it's not really a break-ha!

Anyway, I've been browsing through some of my favorite challenges now that my schedule is a little more free, and found this fun sketch at Stampin' Royalty.

Here is what I came up with featuring a sneak peek of an upcoming set, Strength & Hope. This set is in the Summer Mini and Stampin' Up! will be donating $2 from the purchase of each set to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The set is available in Wood, Clear and even as a Digital Kit. Love it!

Card base is Blushing Bride with a Basic Gray accent layer behind a Very Vanilla background. On the background I stamped a word stamp from the set in Blushing Bride. It has a variety of encouraging words together such as: courage, hope, support, strength. I sponged the edge with Blushing Bride. Two DSP strips are attached as in the sketch. The butterfly was stamped twice in Blushing Bride. Once on a Very Vanilla panel layered over Basic Gray and Blushing Bride. And again on a scrap and cut out. After I curled him on my paper piercer (of course!!), I attached him with a dimensional. I added a strip of pearls for accent. Near the bottom, two strips of Very Vanilla Taffeta ribbon criss-cross. The Hope image was stamped in Blushing Bride on Vanilla and punched with the 1-1/4" punch, layered on a 1-3/8" Blushing Bride, and attached with dimensionals. A small Paper Daisy was attached next to it with a Pearl in the center.

Open House Bliss

Card two from last weekend's Open Houses! Love this set and really wish there was a chance it was staying around! The good news-it's not too late for you to get it! Place your order before next Thursday (March 31)!! Bliss can be yours FREE with a $50 purchase.

Card base is Baja Breeze that was textured with the Framed Tulips embossing folder. Inset inside the frame is a Basic Black under Very Vanilla. The Vanilla was stamped with the large image in Basic Black and the edges sponged with Baja Breeze. Before attaching the layers, a Basic Black Taffeta ribbon was knotted around with the knot on the right side. On the left are layered ovals with Bliss. A butterfly stamped in Baja was cut out and attached over the Basic Black image with a dimensional. I like to curl the butterfly wings just a bit over the paper piercer for a little extra dimension. The paper piercer is also a GREAT tool to use for attaching Pearls and Rhinestones! Use it to just catch the glue dot under them, and place exactly where you want them! Give it a try-I promise you'll love it!! I added two medium pearls to the butterfly body and two small ones on the flowers on the Bliss image.

Open House Plane & Simple

I had Open Houses last weekend featuring SAB & Occasions Mini cards. Here is the first card using Plane and Simple. I ordered it recently after seeing all the great samples everyone has been sharing. This is the first card I made using the set!

Card base is Basic Gray with a Riding Hood Red accent layer. Background is Naturals White that was stamped with the stripe/diamond stamp across it in Basic Gray. The clear stamp block makes it easy to line up and place! After stamping the background, I sponged the edge with Riding Hood Red and spritzed on some Riding Hood Red also with the marker. Before I attaching, I ran the whole layer through the Big Shot in the Square Lattice embossing folder. The plane was stamped in Basic Gray and sponged with Riding Hood Red before layering onto Riding Hood Red and then Basic Gray. The whole image was attached with dimensionals.  Lastly, I added the saying. 'happy father's day' (or 'happy birthday') was stamped on Naturals White with Riding Hood Red, punched with the Word Window punch and added to a Riding Hood Red Modern Label punch. At each end I added a Silver Brad. The edges of the brad are folded over on the back of the Modern Label and it's attached to the background with dimensionals.

Sketch Frenzy Friday 032511

Friday! Wow, this week zipped by! It was a little less busy but still went too fast! Mother Nature has decided we need another shot at Winter-Yuck!  So, all the more reason to think Spring with my Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge card!!

The sketch this week was also created by me. Sadly, the only time I use My Digital Studio is to create sketches!

The card base is Old Olive, and it opens from the bottom not the side. The background print is from the Sunny Garden DSP pack. The main image is from Just believe. I inked the stamp with markers, Old Olive for the stems, Daffodil Delight for the flowers. Reminds me of real Daffodils. Across the background print is an Old Olive Wide Grosgrain ribbon. The words were stamped on the same DSP print in Old Olive and punched with the Word Window, then layered onto the Modern Label punch. I added a White brad to each end of the Modern Label. That's it!

ColorLab34

Thursday means another ColorLab challenge! Get your Lab coat and play along with us!!

Colors this week:

Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, Chocolate Chip and Whisper White

When Julie sent the colors, she said it was inspired by a sunflower. Guess where my ideas went?? and stayed??  Love Sunflowers!!! Bet you didn't know that huh??  Tee he he.

Let me apologize for the wonky scan too. It looks much more straight in real life. Not sure what happened to the scan.

Anyway, to the card! Card base is Chocolate Chip with a Daffodil Delight layer behind Naturals White. I used that instead of Whisper White. The White was textured with the Finial Press embossing folder in the Big Shot, but with a craft frame with a rectangle in the center to leave the center unembossed. In that center I stamped the stem from Because I care in Pear Pizzazz near the bottom. Next I cut some Daisies with the Big Shot. I used two of the medium and small. I sponged one layer of each size with Daffodil Delight, and the other lightly with Chocolate Chip. I also cured the medium ones slightly for a little extra depth. They are attached together and accented with a Chocolate Chip Jumbo Brad. The whole element is attached with Dimensionals. On the background, I lightly sponged Pear Pizzazz over the texture, and sponged Chocolate Chip around the edge. Pear Pizzazz ribbon is across the bottom with the 'thank you' oval attached over with Dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by!! Starting Saturday I will be sharing cards from my Open Houses last weekend! Hope you can make it back :)

Sketch Frenzy Friday 031811

Friday!! We've had some great Spring weather here-yeah!! Friday as you know means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge. Here is my card

based on this sketch brought to us by Deb Currier

I kept mine simple and sweet! Card base is Pretty in Pink. On that I stamped the blossom image from Easter Blossoms in Pretty in Pink, I added a few white dots with my gel pen for accent. Over that, I stamped the saying in Crumb Cake. On the left is the little girl image stamped in Pretty in Pink on Whisper White. That is layered onto Crumb Cake with a corner accent of Pretty in Pink. I didn't leave room to put a ribbon around, so I knotted one into a bow and added it below.

Happy Thursday!! Time for another ColorLab challenge!! Fun colors this week! Nice and Springy! and, better yet-it's feeling like Spring this week in Nebraska!! YEAH!! Here are the colors:

Marina Mist, Regal Rose, Pear Pizzazz

and here is the card I came up with!

I got an order yesterday with some new sets. This fun one, Happy Together, is one of the ones you can get FREE from the Idea Book & Catalog with a $50 purchase during Sale-A-Bration. Awesome!!

Card base is Regal Rose. I stamped the flowers and stem on it four times in Regal Rose. Then I ran it through the Big Shot in the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder. On the strip across the center I stamped the flower in Regal Rose, stem in Pear Pizzazz and birds in Marina Mist. All on Whisper White which I layered on Pear Pizzazz and then on Maria Mist with scallop edges from the Scallop Trim Border punch. In the center of the flower, I added a Bitty Button with a coordinating punch of Pear Pizzazz. Pretty quick and easy really!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 031111

Friday! Time for another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge! Bliss was out from making yesterdays card, and I thought the butterflies would be perfect for this card! Here is my card..

based on this sketch by Angela Walters.

Oops, didn't realize my card was so close in color to the sketch! That was incidental! Lots going on this week and my brain is VERY tired!! I had Baja in my mind because I've seen so many cards with Bliss and Baja, and the rest came from the Color Coach!

My card base is Baja Breeze on which I stamped the large image from Bliss. This card opens from the bottom, and the bottom front edge was punched with the Scallop Border Punch. The Scallop Squares were punched from Early Espresso. Inside the Scallops I set a small Very Vanilla Square on which I had stamped the flowers from Bliss in Pink Pirouette. I cut out four butterflies (not my favorite thing to do, but sometimes, ya just gotta!!) and attached with dimensionals. They were curled just a bit and I added a few medium Pearls. Finally, I added the Happy Birthday from Bring on the Cake in Early Espresso just under the lower Scallop Squares. Pretty quick and easy, aside from the cutting!!

ColorLab32

Got your Labcoat?? Time for another ColorLab challenge! Fun colors this week. And I did still find them a challenge, but I'm very happy with what I came up with!!

So Saffron, Rich Razzleberry & Blushing Bride

And, here is what I came up with!

My inspiration came from the SAB catalog, on the Bliss page. This is a very similar layout to the sample there, I just changed up the colors, images and accents a bit. Card base is So Saffron and this card opens from the bottom, not the side. On the So Saffron I stamped the large image from Bliss in So Saffron. I then spritzed it with the Rich Razzleberry marker and punched the bottom edge with the Scallop Trim Border Punch. I also sponged the edge of all the So Saffron with So Saffron ink. Across the center is a strip of Rich Razzleberry that was punched on the top and bottom with the Scallop Trim Border Punch. Layered onto that is a strip of Shimmery White Card Stock. On the Shimmery White I stamped the Bliss and a few flowers in Blushing Bride. I added just a bit of spritz here too. I stamped a butterfly in Rich Razzleberry and 3 flowers in Blushing Bride on Shimmery White and cut them out. To the butterfly I added some very small Pearls, curled the wings just a bit and attached him with dimensionals. Same with the flowers.

Thanks for stopping by today! I do hope you'll stop over by the ColorLab and play along!! We love to see all the unique creations each week!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 030411

Friday! again?? Wow, time is zipping past! Good thing I have to stamp twice a week! Lately, that is the only time I'm finding!! My boys are keeping me hopping but I love EVERY minute of it!! Another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge for you today. I had fun with this one! Sometimes challenges just click and immediately you know what you want to do. Others, are a challenge!!

Anyway, here is my card for today

based on this sketch by Tina Taves.

I knew when I saw the three small squares that I wanted to use these new buttons. They've been sitting around just begging to be used!! Next I grabbed my favorite set from the Occasions Mini, Bold Blossom. Card base is Rose Red with a Baja Breeze background textured with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder. The main panel is Whisper White layered onto Pear Pizzazz with a strip of Pear Pizzazz DSP at the very bottom. I stamped the butterflies in Baja Breeze, flowers in Rose Red and stems in Pear Pizzazz. A Whisper White grosgrain ribbon is knotted around the DSP and the saying is stamped in Pear Pizzazz on the Pear Pizzazz striped DSP. In the center of the buttons I knotted some white embroidery thread. The buttons are attached with Mini Glue Dots. Pretty quick and easy card really!! And aren't the colors Springy!! So ready for Spring 'round here!!!!!

ColorLab31

Thursday means another ColorLab challenge. Again, I found this one very challenging!! Nothing obvious came to mind at first glance. Or after several passes through the catalog!

Pink Pirouette, Peach Parfait, Baja Breeze

Finally, I settled on the Cottage Garden and knew I could make something work! Card base is Baja Breeze that I ran through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder. Next I cut a Top Note from Whisper White Card Stock and stamped a random background: big flowers in Pink Pirouette, small clumps of flowers in Peach Parfait, and butterflies in Baja Breeze. I then ran the Top Note through the Big Shot as well in the Perfect Polka Dots folder. The edge was sponged with Pink Pirouette, Peach Parfait glimmer brads were added at the top and bottom points and a Peach Parfait ribbon knotted around the center. I stamped the saying in Peach Parfait and punched with the Wide Oval Punch. I then added a large flower and butterfly (after stamping off once). The edge was sponged with Pink Pirouette and then layered onto a Baja Breeze Decorative Label Punch. The saying is attached with dimensionals over the ribbon.

Thanks for stopping by! We do hope you'll stop by the ColorLab and play along! We love to see what you come up with!!

First Edition Thanks

I actually mailed a card last week-what a concept!! Most generally I just make cards. Very few ever leave here addressed to anyone. Sad, yes, but that's how it goes for me.

I needed to send a Thank You to the local newspaper, so of course I reached for the First Edition DSP. I was going for masculine as well. Card base is Night of Navy with a background layer of Cherry Cobbler. I sponged the edge of the DSP with Night of Navy then spritzed on both Night of Navy and Cherry Cobbler ink. A Night of Navy wide striped grosgrain is attached just below center. Thanks a Million is from the Word Play set. I stamped it in Navy on Very Vanilla and punched it with the Decorative Label punch. I sponged the edge with Night of Navy and layered more Decorative Labels behind. It's attached with dimensionals over the ribbon. Quick and easy!
