Sketch Frenzy Friday 102811

Happy Friday all! I'm ready! Friday is going to be a crazy day, but hopefully the weekend won't be too bad!!??!!

Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and Mini Tour! Can't wait to see that the team came up with!! I immediately thought Halloween when I saw the sketch by Tammy F. That created a bit of a problem as I don't have many Halloween stamps! Here is what I came up with

based on this sketch by Tammy Fite.

Not overly creative, but it will do!! I haven't been stamping and I'm feeling it!!! Need to make that much more of a priority!!

My card base is Basic Black with a background of Tangerine Tango dotted DSP. Across the center of that is a strip of Whisper White with narrow Black Taffeta strung across. In the center is the "Trick or Treat" saying from Grateful Greetings. It was inked with markers, stamped on Whisper White, punched with the 1-1/4" Square Punch and layered on a Basic Black 1-3/8" Square. The two pumpkins were stamped on Whisper White in Tangerine Tango, with Chocolate Chip stems, Crumb Cake squiggles and Basic Black faces, then cut out. The saying and pumpkins were attached over the ribbon with dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by today!! Continue on our tour by clicking HERE to see what Maria has created for your viewing pleasure. Remember, all the team members and main SFF blog are linked in my right sidebar if you get derailed.

I will come back this weekend and enter the catalog items used. Working on a new computer and still adjusting to the keyboard. Too tired for stress this late!! Have a GREAT weekend!!!

Open House Sounding Joy

The last card from Open Houses last weekend!! This set has very quickly landed at the top of my favorites for Christmas Cards. Probably because you can get very stunning results with very little work!! :)

The card base is Soft Suede. The background is Very Vanilla that we scored horizontally every 1/4" using the fabulous NEW Simply Scored Tool. Across the center is a punched Soft Suede Lace Ribbon Border. Over that is layered a very pretty new ribbon, the Very Vanilla 3/8" Velvet Stitched Ribbon. The accent, an Antique Brad punched through the ribbon. The star from the set was stamped in Soft Suede on Very Vanilla. The "Joy" was added with the new Pewter Embossing Powder. That elements is attached with dimensionals over the ribbon and punch border. Quick, easy and beautiful!!! And, many other colors would work perfectly with this as well!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 102111

Happy Friday all! As you know that means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and mini hop! Here is my card

based on this sketch by Tammy Baldwin

My card feels a little more like Spring than Fall, but that's OK! I figured the colors would be great for a 'thinking of you' card! There isn't much stamping either, but with the GREAT DSP that we have that's OK too!! :)

The card base is Wild Wasabi. The 3 DSP prints are from the Just Add Cake pack. Colors featured are Wild Wasabi, So Saffron, Blushing Bride & Baja Breeze. My 3 elements are flowers created with the Boho Blossoms punch and Whisper White buttons from the Neutrals Designer Buttons set. In the center of the buttons is White Baker's Twine. The saying is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and was stamped on Whisper White in Wild Wasabi, punched with the Word Window punch and layered onto a Baja Breeze Modern Label punch.

Open House Christmas Lodge

Oops-got off track posting! But, here is the 3rd card from Open Houses last weekend! Love this one-even my husband noticed it!!

The card base is Cherry Cobbler, the background is Shimmery White that I textured with the Snow Burst folder in the Big Shot. Around the center is the FABULOUS Cherry Cobbler Quilted Satin Ribbon. We stamped the lodge and 'Merry Christmas' with Cherry Cobbler Craft Ink and added Clear Embossing powder. The point of that, so we could add Dazzling Details and not have the ink turn pink!! Dazzling Details is iridescent glitter glue and adds awesome sparkle!! We put it where the snow would be-on the roof lines and under the porch. Attach your layers to the background with Mini Glue dots and you're done!!

Open House Gently Falling

Card two from the weekend. Using a technique I tried recently and really like-especially for Fall leaves!

Aren't the leaves on here awesome??!!?? The technique is the Baby Wipe Technique. Splitcoast has a great tutorial HERE, but it's really simple. Take a baby wipe and fold it in half and put it in a container. I like to fold the edges into the center, and then fold that into the center again so there are no edges on the top that we are going to use. Now you add drops of reinker to make your ink pad. Start with the darkest color and add 4 or 5, then the middle color, then the lightest color. The size of your ink just needs to slightly exceed the largest stamp you are going to use. Don't leave any white areas either or you'll have gaps on your stamp. Once you have the ink as desired, stamp as you would with an ink pad! Press your stamp down well in one spot and don't ink it more than once or you'll risk muddying the colors. I also recommend after stamping, you stamp again on scratch paper to avoid muddying the colors as well.

One other hint before finishing the details of the card. I found that new baby wipes right out of the package do not work near as well as some a little older. You want them damp, but not wet. If they feel too dry, spritz them with a light water spray. I had old ones hanging around here and I started playing with those. I figured new would be even better. NOT!! You could probably use the new ones if you let them sit out a while before using them!!

OK, back to the card. The colors we used to make the "ink pad" are Chocolate Chip, Cherry Cobbler and Daffodil Delight. We stamped the leaves-the "insides" from Gently Falling-randomly on the Very Vanilla background. You could add the outline of the leaves as well. I didn't as I knew it would take some time and add too much stress!! :) After the leaves were all done, we sponged the edge with Daffodil Delight. The background is layered onto Cherry Cobbler, then attached to the card base of Chocolate Chip. The saying is from Hand-Penned Holidays and was stamped on a strip of Very Vanilla with Chocolate Chip. We punched a wider strip of Cherry Cobbler with the Scallop Trim Border and layered the saying on to that. It is attached over the background.

Scroll back through my cards for the last week and see some others I've done with this technique!! I've had fun trying it out!!

Open House Jack of All Trades

I survived Open Houses this weekend. But, just barely! Ha! I will recover ;)

The creation process starts with ideas in my head. Especially this time when I was out of town the week before and didn't have time to play. This time of year I like to show something for Halloween, Fall or Thanksgiving and Christmas. Since it's already the middle of October though I wasn't sure if I wanted to do Halloween. But I've really been liking the Jack of All Trades set. Hmmm. This is what I came up with first using a saying from the Grateful Greetings set to be a nice Fall or Thanksgiving card.

Then I was looking at various sayings in the catalog and noticed a super fun one in Smarty Pants, so I did this one.

Isn't that fun?? My guests had the choice, faces or not and either saying or a Happy Halloween saying from Delightful Dozen.

The card base is Tangerine Tango. Background is Early Espresso that was textured with the Square Lattice embossing folder. The Top Note was cut from Naturals Ivory. On that we first stamped the tall pumpkin in Tangerine Tango just left of center. We masked that pumpkin and stamped the short pumpkin beside it. Next we added the stem with Early Espresso, and faces if desired. The saying was stamped on another piece of Naturals Ivory and punched with the Scallop Oval punch. That was layered onto a larger Scallop Oval cut with the Movers & Shapers die. We stamped the curly image from the set in Crumb Cake near the stem on each pumpkin and under the pumpkins as well. Under the pumpkins I did some full strength and some off once for a lighter effect. We sponged Crumb Cake ink on the Top Note and saying and added Gold Brads at the points. The saying was added with Stampin' Dimensionals top right.

One other tip: when attaching either textured layers, like the Early Espresso here, or attaching to textured layers, like the Top note here, I like to use Mini Glue Dots. Normally I use Snail adhesive for everything, but the Glue Dots seem to work much better when there is texture involved!!

Thanks for stopping by today!! Stay tuned-3 more projects coming up this week!!

ColorLab55

Hello all! It's the 15th and that means another ColorLab challenge!! Grab your Lab Coat and play along!! Here are the colors for this month

Cajun Craze, Daffodil Delight & Marina Mist

and the card I created.

I've decided you can make Fall leaves with LOTS of different colors!! I have open houses this weekend and this was an experiment with the Baby Wipe Technique to decide if I wanted to use if for the group or not. Fun fun!! Stop by next week to see if I used it for the group, and for more details on the technique!! The short version: add drops of desired colors to a baby wipe-using reinkers, darkest to lightest, and use that as an ink pad. That is how I inked my leaves, so they are all a blend of the three colors. Over that, I stamped splatter drops in Marina Mist. The card base is Cajun Craze with a Marina Mist layer behind the Naturals Ivory background. The edge of the background was sponged with Daffodil Delight, and a Daffodil Delight grosgrain knotted around before attaching to the Marin Mist. The saying is from Blessings from Heaven, a new to me set with some great sayings. I stamped the saying over a leaf on Naturals Ivory, added some light Marina splatters around the edge, sponged with Daffodil and layered onto Marina & Cajun. The elements is attached with dimensionals over the ribbon. One final accent, I added a Marina Mist 1/8" Taffeta knot around the Daffodil ribbon knot.

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure you stop over at the ColorLab and see what the other Chemists created. And, don't forget to play along-you have an entire month!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 101411

Happy Friday all! Hope you've had a GREAT week and an even better weekend on tap! Crazy times here, but that's OK! Looking forward to Open Houses this weekend and seeing all my stampers!!

Friday means another Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge and tour! Here is my card

based on this sketch by Sharon Wheet.

My card base is Textured Soft Suede card stock, with the accent layers of Spice Cake DSP. On the square (striped) pieced I added 3 gold brads to the top left, and on the rectangle I added a saying top left. My "any shape" are two leaves from the Gently Falling set. I stamped the inside using the Baby Wipe technique with Soft Suede, More Mustard and Pool Party. The outline is stamped over in Soft Suede. Cut out, curled, and attached with dimensionals. Quick and easy!! Had to be as I have tons of things on my to do list today!!

Blended French Foliage SR92

Hello all! Hope you're having a good weekend. Trying to get back on track here. My husband and I went to California's Napa Valley last week, and I'm having trouble getting back on schedule! And with Open Houses next weekend and projects not planned-that is NOT a good thing!! Napa however, was very good!! We highly recommend it!

I'm trying to stamp a few things and get back in creative mood. I was browsing challenges last night and found this color challenge at Stampin' Royalty. Had to do it!!

Any excuse to use purple and I'm in! And, French Foliage was out from something else I was doing, so of course I used it too!! I really do have other sets!! This card uses the Baby Wipe technique. I'm trying it out to see if it would be a good thing to do for an Open House card. I'm liking it so far-love the blended look of the colors!!

The card base is Elegant Eggplant with a More Mustard layer behind the background of Naturals White. The leaves are multi-colored with Elegant Eggplant, Old Olive & More Mustard. Over those, I stamped So Saffron Splatter dots. The edge was also sponged with So Saffron. The ribbon was attached before layering the background onto the More Mustard. A separate piece was put into an Antique Brad to look like a bow, and attached over the straight piece. If I'd been thinking, I would have included the straight piece also in the brad-it lays a little better that way! The saying is from Word Play and was stamped in Elegant Eggplant with a light leaf over it. The edge was sponged with So Saffron, and a few splatter dots added. After layering onto More Mustard and Elegant Eggplant, it was attached to the background with dimensionals.

Pretty quick and easy card! Love the colors!! Thanks for stopping by today!!

Sketch Frenzy Friday 100711

Welcome to Friday once again friends!! That means another Sketch Frenzy Friday sketch and mini tour! Here is what I came up with this week

based on this sketch by Robbie Rubala.

My card base is Chocolate Chip with a background layer of the First Edition Designer Paper. On the DSP I stamped the leaf image from Lovely as a Tree randomly, then spritzed on some Garden Green & More Mustard ink. Before attaching to the card base I sponged the edge with Chocolate Chip and added three Metallic Brads at the bottom right corner. The three panels are images also from Lovely as a Tree. The center is a tree that I tried to make look like a fall tree. I inked the tree with markers first, Chocolate Chip for the trunk, Garden Green for the leaves. Then I thumped it with More Mustard and Chocolate Chip. That didn't blend the colors quite as much as I wanted, so I picked up the Blender Pen and did a little more. The edge was sponged lightly with Chocolate Chip before layering onto Chocolate Chip. The other two panels are the same leaf image as the background. I tried to angle them so they would show around the center panel, but it didn't work quite like I wanted-oh well!! The leaves were stamped with Chocolate Chip. I added some More Mustard and Garden Green with markers and then blended some with the Blender Pen. I spritzed each panel before attaching to layers: Garden Green top right, More Mustard bottom left. The top and bottom panels were attached to the background first, then the center panel with dimensionals.

The Sounding Joy Club version

Howdy all! Finally, here is the last card from Club last weekend, a different color version of my Sounding Joy swap card shown HERE. Lovin' the simplicity of this card!!

Colors here are Early Espresso, Very Vanilla & Riding Hood Red. As on the other card, the background, or the entire front of the card was textured with the new Snow Burst embossing folder. The star was stamped in Riding Hood Red on Very Vanilla and then the Joy was embossed with the new Pewter Embossing Powder. The Espresso Quilted ribbon was knotted at the bottom of the star. Doesn't get much quicker and easier!! Especially for a Christmas card!!
